If you are a first-time client at Inverurie Chiropractic Clinic, you'll need to give us some information about your background, medical history and the nature of your condition. This is so that we can determine whether or not chiropractic care will be suitable for you and provide the best possible care, tailored to your specific circumstances. If we feel you need further investigations you may not receive treatment during the consultation but we try our best to provide this is possible.
Before your consultation we send you an e-mail asking you to fill in a questionnare called Care Response where you have a chance to add comments or background information. We also ask you to score your pain before and after treatment so we can measure the outcome of the treatment. When you arrive at the clinic we'll have some brief paperwork for you to fill in on your first visit. This paperwork provides us with general information about you and your condition.
During your first consultation with the chiropractor, you'll discuss any health-
related issues and concerns. You'll also learn about potential treatment options
including self-help, and alternatives to chiropractic.
History and examination
In order to pinpoint your problem, the chiropractor will ask you a number of
questions related to your condition, your past medical history and your general
health. A variety of targeted tests will be performed to determine which parts of
the body are affected and to what extent. If we do not think your problem is
suitable for chiropractic care we will refer you to the appropriate health care
Your specific condition may require us to have X-rays or scans taken either to
rule out more serious conditions or to assist us in assessing the most effective
treatment plan for you. We normally will do this via your GP. Alternatively, we
can refer you privately for x-rays at another clinic in Aberdeen. We can also
refer for MRIs at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but you will have to pay for
Once the examination is complete, after discussing what your preferences are
what we would recommend and alternative options, patients will generally
have their first treatment during the consultation. This may include spinal
adjustments, muscle work, exercises and advice about posture.
Before leaving, you'll be given instructions on certain activities or procedures
to be carried out at home. This may include ice or heat applications, avoidance
of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises. We may advice you
to see your GP for pain relief as well.
Research shows that most people benefit from regular exercise for low back
pain and we will discuss what options you have. It is up to you to decide what
is best for you.
Follow up appointments
We follow the NICE Guidelines and Royal College of Chiropractors' guidelines
for management of back pain and neck pain on number and frequency of
treatments and reassess at every visit. On each visit we discuss your goals and
how you are doing.
CARE RESPONSE - Follow-up emails
After 2 weeks, a month and three months we will email you again and ask you
to score your pain level. We will also send you a patient satisfaction
questionnaire, because we care about your experience and are always keen to
look at how we can improve. This information is anonymous and will only be
for our internal use.
